What is PEP ?

PEP stands for Primary Exit Profile and is a series of assessments used in Jamaica to determine a student’s readiness for secondary school.It replaces the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) and includes a Curriculum Based Test, an Ability Test, and Performance Tasks. The PEP is designed to provide a comprehensive profile of a student’s academic strengths, weaknesses, and preparedness for grade 7.

Purpose:

PEP aims to assess students' knowledge, abilities, and skills across various subject areas, providing a credible profile of their readiness for secondary school.

Components:

Curriculum Based Test (CBT):

Focuses on content from the grade 6 curriculum. 

Ability Test:

Assesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills, not solely based on curriculum content. 

Performance Tasks:

Evaluates students’ practical application of knowledge through tasks in areas like math and language arts..

PEP helps to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement, informs their placement in secondary schools, and provides insights into their learning styles and needs.
